Join the School of Social Work on March 22 for a day-long event that gathers students and faculty from across Texas to learn advocacy skills and to be educated on pressing social justice issues in Texas.
PROGRAM
- 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, Texas Union Shirley Bird Perry Ballroom: Program featuring Texas State Representatives Diego Bernal and Elliot Naishtat, panel of social work experts on immigration, and keynote by alumna Olivia Lopez, who in 2015 spoke about conditions in the Karnes family detention center.
- 12:30 pm through the afternoon, Texas State Capitol: Rally on Capitol steps, teach-in on healthcare enrollment sponsored by NASW, and time for visits to legislative offices.
Registration for this event is required and cost $10. Register here. The first 150 students who register will be waived the registration fee thanks to funds generously donated by Dean Luis Zayas and professor Cal Streeter.
