AUSTIN, Texas – Molly Lopez, Ph.D., a Research Scientist in the Addiction Research Institute, a unit of the Center for Social Work Research at The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work, will present at the “Research Brown Bag” Wednesday, March 7, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the school’s Room 2.132.
In her presentation, “Implementation Science: When Research is a Reality Show,” Dr. Lopez will discuss the complexities of bringing research on effective treatments for individuals with mental health needs into real world settings. She will highlight the “messy” nature of such research, as well as the potential for significant impact. Dr. Lopez will share some of the practical “lessons learned” from several research studies aimed at improving the quality of mental health services for adults, children, and adolescents. She will also provide an overview of her most recent R34 grant to adapt a trauma intervention for youth incarcerated in state correctional facilities.
Lopez is a licensed clinical psychologist. Her research interests focus on mental health services, implementation of empirically-supported treatments, and cognitive behavioral therapies. Prior to joining the University, Lopez spent 10 years at the Texas Department of State Health Services (formerly TDMHMR) working in research and evaluation, as well as children’s program and policy roles.
