Departmental Scholarships
Scholarships within the Steve Hicks School of Social Work are awarded based on available funds. Awards are judged competitively on the basis of academic achievement, professional potential, and need. Departmental scholarships are limited in number and usually are in the form of honoraria in amounts between $1,000-$3,500. Our highest level of departmental scholarship comes through the Steve Hicks Scholarship Program. Students selected as Steve Hicks Scholars receive $10,500 per year for up to two years, depending on program of study. Awarded funds are typically released to the recipient at the beginning of the fall and spring semester. To be considered for these awards please complete and submit the financial support application.
Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant Positions
The Steve Hicks School of Social Work has a limited number of teaching and research assistantships available. These are generally 10 hour/week jobs where students earn approximately $1,500 per semester. Preference may be given to PhD students. Students must be taking at least 9 graduate semester hours in the semester that they work, have no incompletes, and have a GPA of 3.0. TA/RA appointments are for one semester at a time. Individual faculty select students to be their TA/RA’s from a pool of applicants. Decisions on funding for the number and types of positions are made at the start of each semester. Once funding has been determined, faculty and staff are notified of available positions and then select students to be interviewed from the applicant pool.
