Internal Transfer Students

Social work studentsCurrent undergraduate students at UT Austin interested in internally transferring to the Steve Hicks School of Social Work or adding social work as an additional major must complete the online internal transfer application and meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of at least 12 hours in-residence. Credit earned by exam, correspondence, and extension may not be counted toward this requirement.
  • A cumulative in-residence GPA of at least 2.25.
    • If social work coursework has been completed prior to the application, a GPA of at least 2.50 in those courses is required. All social work courses must have been completed with a grade of at least C.

Students with over 90 hours or a completed degree in another college or school are encouraged to consider other options, such as pursuing a master’s degree in social work.

Internal Transfer Application Deadlines

  • Fall admission: May 1 (Application opens February 1; Check back here on that date)
  • Spring admission: December 1 (Application opens September 1; Click here to apply.)

Upcoming Virtual Internal Transfer Information Sessions

Prospective internal transfer students must attend an internal transfer information session before they are able to meet with an BSW advisor. Prospective internal transfer students, will be seen during non-peak advising times.
