Internship Positions

The DiNitto Center for Career Services (DCCS) is committed to building partnerships with employers to help students find and fill valuable internship positions. Internships that are posted via DCCS are not eligible for academic credit.

Agencies that are interested in developing an academic internship program or fill an intern vacancy for a student to receive academic credit should begin the process by registering as a potential new filed instructor at Steer Your Career.

Internship Guidelines

The following guidelines are based on information gathered from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Position Statement on U.S. Internships, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Guidance Letter and the policies of The University of Texas at Austin and School of Social Work.

DCCS welcomes career-related and professionally-oriented internships from any social service organization or agency. Internships are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. These are minimum general requirements:

  • The internship must be relevant to the social work profession. We do not accept administrative, clerical or non-professional internships (i.e., receptionist, clerk, wait staff, babysitter/nanny).
  • The internship must assign meaningful projects.
  •  The internship must provide a professional, established working environment with a strong learning component.

Internships are circulated via our list-serv and social media sites. If you have any questions please email dccs@austin.utexas.edu or call 512-232-7362.
