MSSW/MA with Major in Latin American Studies

Student Ellen Line in OaxacaThe MSSW/MA with Major in Latin American Studies prepares students to fill human service positions that demand clinical knowledge and skills as well as the cultural and linguistic competency required when working with Latino populations and Latin American immigrant populations in the United States.

Graduates of the dual degree will understand the political, social, and economic challenges and successes of Latin America. The students will acquire vital contextual and applied knowledge through their course work. They will also experience on-the-ground conditions in Latin American countries as well as acquire superlative language skills through their field research. Graduates of the dual degree program will learn about the different organizational strategies that characterize various human service agencies and will be qualified to provide much needed culturally sensitive, bilingual services in the delivery of programs and when working with clients from diverse Latin American regions and cultural backgrounds.

There are 4 program options for the MSSW/MA dual degree.

  • 3 Year Full-time Program
  • Post BSW Track 42 Hour Program (Spring Admission)
  • Post BSW Track 42 Hour Program (Summer Admission)
  • Post BSW Track 48 Hour Program

Application to the Dual Degree Program (MSSW/MA)

In addition to all of the materials required for admission to the MSSW program, applicants to the MSSW/MA with Major in Latin American Studies dual degree program must also apply and be accepted to the interdisciplinary LLILAS MA in Latin American Studies.
