Application Process

School of Social Work class on motivational interviewing in the Utopia Theatre with Mary Velasquez 2014Admission to the MSSW program is competitive and early application is encouraged. Although application to the MSSW program requires admission to both The University of Texas at Austin Graduate School and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work; only the social work online application is required.

When application materials have been received, an applicant file is created and processing begins. After a Graduate Social Work Admission Committee review, the Steve Hicks School of Social Work graduate advisor forwards a recommendation for admission to the vice provost and dean of graduate studies at the university. While the Graduate School generally follows the recommendation made by the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, official acceptance into any graduate program requires the approval of the dean of the graduate school. Applicants should expect to receive notification from both the Graduate School and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Learn more about the review process here.

Before applying, please review minimum admission requirements, and additional admission requirements for the post-BSW track, transfer students, dual degree programs, and international students.
