Virtual Walk-Ins
Have a quick question (10-15 minutes)? Please visit us during walk-ins instead. See walk-in calendar here for Zoom links.
Registration Advising Registration advising will be available via virtual walk-ins only from October 1-31, 2020. See walk-in calendar here for Zoom links.
Here’s how you can prepare yourself for registration:
- Check your Registration Information Sheet (RIS) to find out your registration times and see if you have any registration bars. RIS pages will be updated for registration soon.
- Review your Interactive Degree Audit to see which degree requirements you still need to meet. Click the “Access IDA Now” button. Then click on “Audit Results” on the left-hand side—there should already be a recent audit there for you to review.
- Look at your Degree Plan to review degree requirements. Find Core Curriculum Lists here.
- Review the Course Schedule to explore class options. The course schedule will be released in early April. You can see course descriptions for Social Work courses here.
- Need a reminder of how to register? Watch this video for step-by-step instructions on the registration process.
Helpful Tips!
- Be Aware- Please be sure to check prerequisites by clicking on the unique number (blue 5-digit # on course schedule). If you register for a class and don’t meet the prerequisites—you may be dropped eventually.
- Social Work Course Waitlists- The social work online waitlists will be activated as soon as a class fills up. If a class is listed as “closed” on the course schedule that usually means the online waitlist is full. You cannot get permission from the instructor to add a SW class that is listed as “waitlisted” or “closed”. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the BSW Programs Team.
Students Changing Their Major Outside of Social Work
If you plan to transfer out of social work, you must be advised by someone. If you know you want to change your major, it is recommended that you go for advising at the Vick Center for Strategic Advising or speak with the department you plan to transfer to. If you choose to do this, please email BSWadvising@austin.utexas.edu letting us know and have the advisor you meet with log a toolkit note on your record.
Students Entering Field
You are required to schedule a registration advising appointment too. We will go over a final degree check with you by making sure all degree requirements are met and you are taking the right steps towards graduation during group advising.
Long-term Planning Appointments
When it is not peek registration advising, we offer long-term planning appointments. Are you planning on graduating 1.5 or more years from now (May 2022 or later)? If you want to map out your path to graduation and see what all requirements you need to complete, consider scheduling a Long-term Planning appointment online here. NOTE: These appointments are meant to last close to an hour. If you just need to ask us a quick 10 to 15 minute question, please visit us during walk-ins instead. See walk-in calendar here for Zoom links.
Final Degree Check Appointments
Are you planning on graduating within the next 3 semesters (on or before December 2021)? Let’s make sure you are completing your last degree requirements before the big day! Please consider scheduling a Final Degree Check appointment online here.
If you have any questions, please contact us at BSWadvising@austin.utexas.edu.
